Man Scares Would-Be Burglars From His Roof

Quick thinking on the part of a Lawrenceburg man enabled him to scare away four people who were attempting to enter his home from the roof Saturday.

Reports filed through the Lawrenceburg Police Department show that the incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. at his Debus Street residence.

The victim, age 40, told officers that he had heard noises he believed to be coming either from the second floor of the home, or the roof over his porch.

He said that he grabbed a claw hammer and began to beat it loudly against a wall, mimicking the sound of a gun. He said that he saw four men, between 18 and 25 years of age, jump from the roof and flee.

Officers found that someone had attempted to pry an entire window from the frame of an upstairs room. Several other windows had sustained damage, as had the overhang on the porch roof.

The victim said that some of the windows had been damaged over a period of several days.

Detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division are currently conducting an investigation into the crime.
